Spelthorne Sports Cricket Club Senior and Colts 17 Apr, 2014

SENIOR SECTION:

We currently run one senior side on both Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturdays, we play league matches in the Surrey Cricket League, whilst we play friendlies on Sundays. The Saturday league side has enjoyed some success since joining the league in 2010, winning Division 4 at that time. We now play in Division 2.

We finished mid-table in 2013. However, the Surrey Cricket League did give us the award for Division 2's most Sporting Team. We were also named the most Sporting Team in the whole of the Surrey Cricket League. These awards mirror the ethos of our club in playing hard, but always fairly, sportingly and in a friendly manner.

Thanks to a very generous donation from one of our club members, we recently took delivery of two new sight screens. This was in addition to two new net cages, covers and a boundary rope we have acquired recently.

COLTS SECTION:

Our Colts section is growing rapidly, with the Club placing a number of selected senior players onto Coaching courses to help bring on youngsters of all levels and abilities. Coaching sessions will be FREE in 2014 for all colts. We will be starting summer outdoor coaching sessions again at 10a.m. on 3rd May 2014, when all boys and girls, including complete beginners, will be welcome.

We currently have 3 ECB Level 2 qualified coaches on hand to give expert tuition.

In 2012 we joined forces with Surrey Cricket to implement the Chance To Shine education programme at our club and selected local primary schools. Due to its success in 2012 and 2013, this initiative will continue in 2014.

CLUBMARK ACCREDITATION:

In the summer of 2010, we gained Clubmark Accreditation, and in July, 2013 this was renewed taking us to the summer of 2016. This is recognition by both the Surrey County Cricket Board and the ECB that Spelthorne Sports CC excels in delivering high quality community cricket, especially to our Colts. The hard work put in to achieve this has led to the club being successful in obtaining funds to purchase nets, covers, boundary rope and a bowling machine.
